Bachelorette Party in the Mountains

Just a fun weekend with the girls! Our friend Kelly is getting married October 25th so what better way to celebrate than a weekend in the mountains. We all chipped in for a cabin in Blowing Rock, NC. Needless to say it was quite the adventure to get up to said cabin. There is always construction on the road and of course the only way to go up to said cabin is up a gravel hill/path. We made it in one piece! Woot! So the first order of business was getting settled and enjoying the jacuzzi that was available to us.

The next day was planned with an afternoon hike and dinner at a local restaurant. It was fun despite the wind that would pick up here and there. The view was beautiful and I love mountain landscapes. Once we hiked up and hiked back down, we went back to the cabin to get ready for dinner. The restaurant was called Foggy Rock located in Blowing Rock, NC. Thank goodness we made reservations because it was a pretty popular spot for dinner. I got the “Trout Trout Trout” dish which was tasty paired with a pumpkin ale. When we got back from the dinner, we decided to have a wand making party with 90s music! I know, I know… how geeky and nerdy but it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t do something like that. Most of the girls I was with on this particular trip aren’t the hardcore partying type so we just kept it chill and nerdy lol

The final day of our bachelorette mountain weekend ended with a delicious lunch at Mellow Mushroom followed by some shopping in the local shops around Blowing Rock. It was such a good weekend that I didn’t want it to end! We had so much fun celebrating Kelly’s freedom before she became a married woman haha I was so blessed to be apart of such a fun time and I wish nothing but happiness for her!

Stubborn as ever

Dear Dad,

You are being ridiculous and I want you to know that. I can’t think of anything that can possibly please you or meet your standards. All I want to do is move out of the house that I have been residing at for 25 years. Don’t you think that is long enough?? This is not an impulsive move. I have been working my butt off to graduate college, find a job in my field, and etc. Why do you think it has taken me until now to want to move out? Not that you want me to move anyway. My friend Brittany has finally landed a job. Full time! So now that we all have jobs we can proceed with moving in together. Would you rather me move in with a guy?? These are two girls that graduated from Appalachian State with me and we have been friends ever since we met in Boone. I am not moving out of the state. I will only be 1.5 hours away which is not terribly far but far enough for me to have my independence back. I am sorry you can only think of worse case scenarios. I am a very responsible daughter because you want to know why??? I have a clean driving and criminal record, no accidental children, no drug abuse, and the list goes on.

You can’t expect me to stay with you in your house forever. I need a place of my own to do what I want. Not that I am going to be doing anything sketchy or bad. I just want to be able to hang out with friends who I don’t always see, go out at night (no curfew), etc. I have lived by your rules for long enough and have done my fair share of helping with family financials. So I don’t think it is a big deal when I say that I am ready to move out. My roommates and I all have jobs. We are not reckless with money. We all get along and will do our part to make this work.

Can you please keep an open mind and let me do this? If you continue to be negative and refuse to give me your blessing and permission then I have no choice but to defy you. Not because I want to but because you are giving me no other option. You have no legal right to keep me at your house. I can leave at any time but I am not ungrateful or rude like that. I am being more than courteous by informing you of my future plans. Sorry you can’t accept it.

Sincerely,
Your frustrated 25 year old daughter

Snowpocalypse

Leave it to mother nature to make it snow whenever she feels like! We thought the “polar vortex” was the worst of it but this time around she hit us fast and hard. So all of a sudden. So much snow! Granted it is nothing like up north but you know you are getting a decent amount of snow when you can’t see the roads or the grass in your yard. I went to college at Appalachian State, GO APPS! There was plenty of snow days up there come winter time so needless to say I have had my fair share of snow. I was able to admire the snow from inside the house. I have only driven out in the snow once in Boone because of an emergency that I had to help a friend with. I did not care for it and I don’t think the car I had at the time was made for snow haha. So today on this snowpocalypse… I set a bowl outside my house to collect snow for SNOW CREAM! Now if you have never had snow cream before it is basically making your own ice cream fresh from the falling snow.

The recipe is as follows:
You will need milk, vanilla extract (imitation or real), sugar OR condensed milk. Condensed milk is my personal preference. I don’t have exact measurements for you but if you need one here is an idea of what you need to create your snow cream 🙂

Once you get all the ingredients into a bowl, you will then mix everything until it is to your taste and liking. Simple as that! A fun and easy way to enjoy your snow day!
